Sculptures at the Castle II: A Meeting with Sculptor Martin Skalický and Curator

10. 4.  16.00  Brno City Museum, Spilberk Castle

Martin Skalický is one of the most important sculptors of the middle generation, having graduated from the figurative sculpture studio of Professor Michal Gabriel at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno. Over the past decade, Skalický has transitioned from hyperrealistic sculpture to simpler, more summative forms, exploring the structure of matter and experimenting with various sculptural materials. In addition to plastics and wood, textiles and artificial light sources have also become part of his malleable repertoire. While remaining faithful to the figurative form, he imbues it with a timeless quality. Works from this phase of his career can be seen in the current exhibition. The exhibition at the exterior of Špilberk Castle will be guided by the sculptor himself, Martin Skalický, accompanied by Robert Janás, the exhibition curator. The tour begins in the small courtyard of the castle, at the statue of the angel. Tickets are available at the ticket office.
