Péter Donka: Illustration and Drawings
Péter Donka is a Hungarian visual artist, who is coming to Brno as a participant of KREILU international residency program for illustrators. From mid-March to mid-April, he will be a guest of the Jiří Mahen Library, where he will also present an exhibition of his works, some of which will be created during his stay in Brno.
He graduated in painting at the Faculty of Arts, University of Pécs, Hungary. The core of his work is the search for mutual connections between drawing and painting, which consists in the blending of techniques and the use of often monumental formats. His largest charcoal drawing was 17.5m long! He also creates site-specific installations of small-format drawings on paper, which he installs in large numbers (500-750 pieces). He speaks of himself as a person who hated painting for so long that he drew his way through it at university. He currently teaches at the Medgyessy Ferenc High School of Art in Debrecen, where he also lives and devotes himself to art.
The international residency program KREILU for illustrators is implemented by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Brno in cooperation with the Jiří Mahen Library.
