Hermann Czech at Café Urban

This Friday, April 11, 2025, we warmly invite you to a visit from Viennese architect Hermann Czech at Café Urban.
You can look forward to specialty coffee, the space of Brno’s smallest café, and an unforgettable atmosphere.

☕ Who are we?

We are Café Nihilismus of the new age.
The atmosphere of our café is the faded spirit of Brno.
We are not a space for the self-employed creative class.
We welcome solitary intellectuals and aim to create a club of their friends.
Good coffee is only our second priority.
We are people of the V60, moka pot, Viennese coffee, and Turkish brew.
We top off with cream, sweeten, and let the grounds settle.
A clean white tablecloth and refined behavior are our standard.

☕ Who is Hermann Czech?

He was born and lives in Vienna. He studied at the Vienna Academy under Ernst A. Plischke and at the Salzburg Summer Academy under Konrad Wachsmann. Today, he runs his own studio in the center of Vienna and is also an active architectural theorist.
The work of this Viennese architect combines intellectual depth and awareness, along with a sense of the unusual and absurd, which defies predefined rules.
Although his work has been influenced by figures of early Viennese modernism (Josef Hoffmann, Adolf Loos, Josef Frank…), by film studies, and by postmodernism, the work of Hermann Czech resists categorization—it is multilayered.
