Anna Medvetska: Ones Upon A Time
The project “Ones Upon A Time” explores the therapeutic possibilities of collage. It combines a site-specific installation of collage objects with a documentary video of their creation. The project is divided into two parts: social and personal. The social part focuses on the use of collage as a form of art therapy for children who were forced to leave Ukraine because of the war. The collage workshops provided a safe environment for self-expression and adaptation in a new environment. The results showed that creating collages helps children overcome the emotional and social barriers associated with migration. The personal part of the project focuses on the author’s own experience with the war, with the collage serving as a tool for processing emotions and self-discovery. The final result of the project is a series of collages that reflect personal experiences and connect with children’s stories. The goal of the thesis is not only to explore collage as an artistic medium, but also as a means of healing and self-discovery.
The artistic intervention was selected from the projects registered in the KJM Open Call within the framework of Brno Art Week 2025.
